Drug Hotline for Parents- How to Help Save Your Child From Drug Addiction

Home / Health / Drug Hotline for Parents- How to Help Save Your Child From Drug Addiction

If you suspect your child is abusing drugs, the time to take action is now. Drug abuse can start a very troubling situation for your family and everyone involved. Unfortunately, these situations may be impossible to solve in the home and usually require professional help. A drug hotline for parents can be a life-saving tool when dealing with drug addiction in the family. With a simple phone call, you can talk to a professional about your situation. These highly trained professionals will give you valuable information and resources to prepare your child for the help they need.

What is a Drug Hotline for Parents?

A drug hotline is a toll-free service you can call to receive drug abuse information, treatment options, rehab facility referrals, etc. When you call, the advisor will speak to you confidentially about your situation. These advisors work hard to give you the resources needed to take the next step. Most drug abuse hotlines are free and do not require health insurance to receive assistance. Because of the sensitivity of the issue, a drug hotline is a great first step to addressing the problem.

Confidential Drug Hotlines for Parents to Trust

There are several national and state-based drug hotlines for parents to call and get immediate help for their children. If you would like to search for resources within your state, visit your state’s official website. Most state government websites will provide helpful information covering drug and alcohol abuse issues. However, various national helpline assistants are able to help you find local resources.  Here are resourceful drug abuse websites and hotlines you can call to receive help:

1. www.drughelpline.org – 1-844-289-0879

These trusted professionals will be able to answer any questions you have about substance abuse of any kind. You can reach the hotline at any time of day or night. In fact, the professionals are available 365 days of the year.

2. www.samhsa.gov – 1-800-662-4357

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services manages the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration program. Trained information specialists answer your questions and direct you to resources specific to you and your child’s needs.

3. www.drugfree.org – 1-855-378-4373

Partnership to End Addiction is an excellent resource for addiction help. Parents can ask questions on behalf of their children and gain access to helpful information. These professionals offer guidance and information about adolescent substance abuse, prevention, and treatment.

Most hotlines will never ask for personal information, and your call will remain anonymous and confidential. If needed, call agents will help you find local treatment centers that will work with your insurance. If you don’t have health insurance, the agents will help you find treatment centers that may work on a sliding scale system according to your income. Furthermore, a trained assistant will guide you through the process of confronting your child. This can be a very difficult first step for your family. However, you are not alone.

Drug abuse is hard for everyone involved, including the abuser. Time is critical when it comes to helping your child with an addiction problem. Therefore, it is essential to educate yourself on the warning signs of substance abuse and when to take action. A drug hotline helps parents take the next significant steps in talking to their children and finding them the help they need to get sober.
