Stress is usually defined as a state of mental or emotional tension caused due to certain demanding circumstances. Stress relievers for college students are as necessary, as they are for the rest of us. This is because they are going through an arduous phase of their lives.
Stress has become a part of everyone’s life, and it is quite common among college students. It could perhaps be the studying that has become so strenuous, that they are wavering under such pressure. Apart from studying, financial difficulties, academics, change in environment, conflicts with the roommates and teaching staff, relationships, and the need to prove themselves can separately or collectively cause anxiety, hence the need for stress busters.
Stress is also caused due to habits like studying till late night, which is also referred to as ‘pulling an all-nighter’, which in turn could lead to sleep deprivation in college students.

Exercise
To stay fit, one could just run for a mile or two. Sports, like basketball, can also help you relax. If one wishes to stretch and get rid of the stress, then proven stress relievers such as swimming, weight training, strength training, etc., can be chosen. Jogging is another great stress reliever, which is the best of all mental relaxation activities. Exercises can always help boost one’s mood. Practicing meditation or yoga exercises for relaxation is also an effective way.
Dance and Music
Dancing is considered to be an eternal stress reliever. Under conditions of stress, dancing to the music would be quite relieving. One could attend a rock music or jazz concert, or music of one’s personal preference during weekends.
Healthy Diet
It is important for everyone to follow a balanced and healthy diet. It would help maintain one’s energy levels between the meals. Breakfast should be taken at least an hour, before your morning classes. Skipping meals can leave one exhausted and hungry.
Adequate Sleep
Each of us needs 8 hours of sleep daily. It freshens your mind and makes you more receptive to new ideas, that are being taught in the classes, which is not possible if one is sleep deprived.
Self-control
Keep a tight reign on how you spend your time and money. If you are having a problem with either or both of them, then a little self-control or self-restraint may prove good. Doing one thing at a time will definitely help in improving performance, in terms of quantity and quality. When there are a number of things to do within a short span of time, making a plan to complete them will help.
Prioritize
The most important thing is to prioritize your tasks or activities. This will help you focus on the things that are most important for you. If followed appropriately, planning and executing your plan to come on the top of things, can work as one of the best stress busters for students. When you are studying, many things appear to be of importance, but not all of them are. One needs to find out new approaches to handle relationships and/or financial problems, if they are the cause of your stress.
