Everything You Need to Know about Kids Hand Sanitizer

Home / Kids Hand Washing / Everything You Need to Know about Kids Hand Sanitizer

Using kids hand sanitizer is important, especially today. It helps shield everybody from illness while keeping kids’ paws clean for playtime. But there are so many options that most parents have no idea what to choose. So, here’s what you need to know before spending your money.

What is kids hand sanitizer?

This stuff is an extra gentle version of what the adults use. It provides the same great protection against germs while also featuring bonus ingredients. Most of the time, your kids get to enjoy pleasant scents or glitter when they wash their hands with it.

Sanitizer also helps your children learn about personal hygiene. It keeps them safer when they’re out and about at school or extracurricular activities too. These products are sold virtually everywhere, and many of them can be clipped right onto backpacks for easy transport.

How long does it last?

If you use this stuff instead of soap, there are a few things you should know. First of all, kids hand sanitizer can stay on the shelf for up to 3 years before it goes bad. That means you can make some of your own or stock up at the store to save some money.

Then, there’s the longevity of it in general. Some studies suggest that it only works for about two minutes. Other experts swear it stays effective for up to six hours. Regardless, it’s important to apply hand sanitizer generously and often to prevent illness.

Is kids hand sanitizer safe to use?

Hand sanitizer for kids is generally safe to use as long as you follow the instructions on the label. However, it does contain alcohol. So, monitor your children closely when they use it. That way, you can be sure they never ingest it because doing so could be very dangerous.

Meanwhile, understand that hand sanitizing liquids don’t work as well as antibacterial soaps. In other words, your kids should still wash their hands in the sink even if they use hand sanitizer all day. Furthermore, check the label to make sure your child isn’t allergic to any of the ingredients.

TIP: If it gets into their little eyes, rinse them thoroughly with warm water immediately.

How do I pick the best one?

It’s already hard enough to get your kids to wash their hands. So, you need something that’s fun to use and easy to carry. That means skipping the pump bottles and large containers. Instead, choose products that are colorful, lightweight, and portable. If you can’t find any that your child likes, consider making some of your own.

How can I make my own kids hand sanitizer?

You can DIY a bottle of hand sanitizer for your kids using only three cheap ingredients. Here’s what you need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Aloe vera
  • Lavender essential oil

Mix each ingredient in a bowl. Add dyes and glitter before transferring the mixture to a small, resealable bottle. Then, offer some to your child. If they like it, you just saved a bunch of money on keeping them safe.
